The Children's House
About Our School

The Children’s House was founded in 1965 by Mary Los Baños as Waipahu Nursery School, located in the facility of Waipahu United Church of Christ.

In 1967, the school made the move to the Pearl City area as a significant private education institution for the children of Hawaii. The school opened its doors in Pearl City in 1968.

In 1986, Khun Lanjul Chairatana, Executive Director of the Bangkok YMCA asked Mary Los Baños to come to Thailand and help train leaders and teachers in their early childhood program.

Since then, The Children's House, has trained hundreds of teachers and administrators mainly in poverty-stricken areas throughout Asia.  The Children's House is committed to serving the needs of families and children globally and partners with like minded organizations such as the YMCA and YWAM Mercy Ministries in Bangkok.

In the school year 1999-2000, The Children’s House was gifted by its founder, Mary Los Baños to a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees chosen for their expertise in business and education.

The Children’s House is a member Hawaii Association of Independent Schools (HAIS), Christian Schools International and the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. And it is accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and HAIS.

Campus:

Located at 1840 Komo Mai Drive on over four acres of land, the campus includes beautiful landscaping, spacious open classrooms, a large tree-shaded yard for outdoor work and play, a center pavilion for special programs, lunches, assemblies and physical education, an upper pavilion for art and special activities. There is a music studio and a quiet atrium where the children come to meet the Good Shepherd and learn of His love. Every day our children see our beautiful Good Shepherd statue as they enter the campus in the morning and leave in the afternoon.  The campus is also backed by its own rain forest and running stream providing a unique opportunity to study Hawaii’s natural beauty up close. All of our campus is designed to be an extension of our classroom areas.

Security:
We make every effort to maintain a secure campus.  Entrance into the school is carefully monitored.  A security guard is on duty part of the day and through the night.  Every adult picking up a child must present an authorization card provided by the school.  Fires and evacuation plans are in place and practiced regularly. The safety and wellbeing of our students is our paramount concern.
