School Traditions
Traditions lend a sense of continuity and security to our lives. Here at The Children’s House we observe several very special traditions that bring both continuity and wonder in the school life of our students.
Word of the Week:
Each week, we share a new word that expresses a character trait of Jesus, Our Good Shepherd. The word is posted on the outside of our building, making it visible to our community as well.
Morning Opening:
Every morning before the students enter their classrooms, our students are led in enjoyable morning exercises by our P.E. Teacher. Classroom time begins with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of “God Bless America” along with other inspirational songs. Then the “Christ candle” is lit in each classroom and all of our students have a time of prayer.
Advent Wreath:
December is marked by Christmas programs that revolve around our advent wreath. Parents and grandparents are invited to come and enjoy their children’s Christmas program and share Christmas cookies and punch after the program.
Thanksgiving:
Each year our students celebrate Thanksgiving by providing food for those in need in our community.
Chapel:
Each month we have several chapel assemblies where students of many age levels come together to share and worship.
Stewardship Projects:
Our elementary students select a service project designed to meet a particular need in our school, community or the larger world.
Lent:
The forty days of Lent is observed by lighting our special Christ candle at chapel. An emphasis is placed on forgiveness and reaching out to those in need.
